List of Longest Bridges in the World

Without a doubt, bridges are some of the most wondrous marvels of architecture. We admire some of them for their height, their design or the ideas that are implemented in them but we will talk here about bridges that are the longest in the world.

  • Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge is the longest bridge in the world. Its length is 164,800m (540,700ft) and it is a viaduct on the Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway. It is located on the rail line between Shanghai and Nanjing in East China’s Jiangsu province. Its construction began in 2006 and was finished in 2010. It was opened on 30 June 2011.
  • Tianjin Grand Bridge has length of 113,700m. It is a railway viaduct bridge and it runs between Langfang and Qingxian, making it a part of the Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway. Its construction also began in 2006, it was finished in 2010 and was also was opened on 30 June 2011.

  • The third longest bridge also belongs to China. It is Weinan Weihe Grand Bridge with length of 79,732m and was the longest bridge in the world until two before surpassed it. It is also a part of Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway and it connects Zhengzhou and Xi'an.
  • Bang Na Expressway in Thailand has 54,000m in length and is a longest road bridge in the world. It is a six-lane elevated highway and it was completed in January 2000.
  • Beijing Grand Bridge is also a part of the Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway. Its length is 48,153m.
  • Lake Pontchartrain Causeway has 38,442 m in length and it crosses Lake Pontchartrain in southern Louisiana, United States. It was opened on August 30, 1956 and since then it holds a title of the longest bridge over water in the world.
  • Manchac Swamp Bridge is a twin concrete trestle bridge in the United States state of Louisiana. It has length of 36,710 m and is called the longest toll-free road bridge. It was opened in 1979.
  • Yangcun Bridge is one more part of the Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway. Bridge length is 35,812 m and it was finished in 2007.
  • Hangzhou Bay Bridge is a highway bridge with a cable-stayed portion across Hangzhou Bay in the eastern coastal region of China. It connects the municipalities of Jiaxing and Ningbo in Zhejiang province. It has 35,673m in length and its construction lasted from June 8, 2003 until June 14, 2007. It was opened on May 1, 2008. It is a road bridge and almost 600 experts spent nearly a decade designing the bridge.
  • Runyang Bridge is a large road bridge complex that crosses the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province, China, downstream of Nanjing that has a length of 35,660m. It is a complex of two bridges that link Zhenjiang on the south bank of the river and Yangzhou on the north. It was opened on April 30, 2005 and became the third longest suspension bridge span in the world and the largest in China.
